Debate Paper Reflection IAM 2500-002

If I am being honest not much of my perspective has changed on what interactive media is after doing this project. I think when it comes to interactive media in general I had lots of clarity on some things I was not sure about and I gained more knowledge on things I already knew. With this project it has changed my attitude a bit as well.

I think if I did this project again I would adopt a neutral standpoint. I agree with both sides in some areas and I also think it is hard to pick a real side when applying this in the real world. I found it difficult to find lots of research on the pessimistic side of things and that is one of the main reasons why I would not choose that side of the argument again. It can be hard to form a solid argument when there is not lots of research done for it, especially when so many people are pro-video games in the classroom. If there was enough research for both sides I would create a neutral standpoint.

As a learner I found that there will always be a factor that I never thought about. There will always be something missing and that is okay. I do not need to have all the answers and knowledge about a topic. As a writer this challenged me, as someone who hates group essays and has difficulty with them, it was a relatively brutal lesson to learn. I cannot take charge and do everything because not only is that not fair to my group, but also myself. Presenting our word was pretty simple to me and the easiest part. I was reiterating what I had written and I enjoy sharing what I have discovered.

The Writing Center was a tool I did not expect to help as much as I thought. I had never used nor wanted to use the Writing Center until this class because I had a false idea of what it was. I am glad I was proven wrong because it was really helpful, so helpful I used it for another project I had for another class.

The biggest thing I learned or emphasized is how much support we should be giving to our educators and the education system. Everyone learning in the classroom deserves an infinite amount of resources, but that is unrealistic, so we must support them as best we can. I think my biggest contribution was making sure that we got together as a group, communicated, and made a plan for the project. I felt that if  i didn't do that the project would have gone in a different direction. I am the type to lead the team so I did not mind at all regardless. I think I could have done better with some areas of my writing and let someone take charge of making the presentation instead of assigning it to myself.
